Oregon Enacts Pharmaceutical Licensure
In an effort to curb out of control drug expenditures and unethical business practices Oregon has begun the rule making process to require licensure of pharmaceutical sales representatives.
While still in the rule making phase the following are some of the requirements to be aware of:
- Annual license fee of $750
- Fifteen hours of professional education that must include the comparative clinical effectiveness of pharmaceutical products, comparative cost effectiveness of pharmaceutical products and professional ethics. Initial Licensure
- At least five hours of continuing professional education in specific subject areas such as pharmacology and how to read and analyze peer-reviewed literature on pharmaceutical products.
The next scheduled meeting is on November 16th and the dial in information can be found at the following website: Division of Financial Regulation : Licensing of pharmaceutical representatives (SB 763) RAC : Committees and work groups : State of Oregon
It is not a surprise but Oregon is following other states, cities and counties in seeking to regulate the activities of pharmaceutical sales representatives.
Similar to drug price reporting and global transparency, sales rep licensing should be added to the 2022 Compliance Auditing & Monitoring. At MedCompli, we can help simplify sales rep licensure and continuing education training in our comprehensive life science commerical compliance & HCP engagement solution.
